LET'S DISCUSS: WHEN WILL FACEBOOK BECOME IRRELEVANT?

Will the giant fall? The media seems to think it's already fell.

Remember Myspace? Do you remember those days? What happened? Facebook happened. It happened fast, seemingly overnight. Since Facebook has taken on the role of the new Myspace, does that mean Facebook will become stale and suffer the same fate?

When Myspace was thriving investors were flocking to it striking advertisement deals left and right. When Facebook was rising and Myspace was declining, those same investors quickly turned their backs to them. The saying "Everyone loves a winner" certainly rang true, and Myspace faded into a shell of it's former self.

So what went wrong? Why did it simply tank? Why didn't it put up more of a fight for its users? Because Myspace was so consumed with it's status, all it cared about was making money. It was so distracted by it's advertising platforms that they seemed to have overlooked their user experience and interface, and therefore they came crashing down.

Fast forward to today, Facebook seems to be losing more and more users according to reports. Even at their financial peak this year, they were still losing chunks of users (mostly teenagers). So why is this happening? When you heard Facebook in the news it was either about their stock status or their plans to roll out more lush advertising. Is all this greed killing the user experience? Has Facebook become more of a business than a social networking site?

So what do you think? Do you log into your Facebook account as much as you did? Have you migrated to Twitter? Do you spend more time on another site? Will Facebook fall just as Myspace did? Or is it here to stay for a lot longer than we think?

  1. All they care about is how they can make more money, not improve the user experience. Privacy is an issue when you sign up for an account and by default everything is public.

    1. I agree but isn't being online the same thing? you're just exposing yourself on different levels so really you have nothing to complain about when you put yourself in that position in the first place.

      Right?
